Psychotherapy is a regulated practice in Ontario, whereby wellness and healing are facilitated between an individual, couple, or family, and a trained mental health professional. This relationship is integral to the treatment and is based on open communication, ongoing collaboration, and recognized psychotherapeutic approaches or interventions. Psychotherapists at Aurum expressly recognize that individual wellness and concerns are connected to our environments, families, communities, and structural factors (ex. capitalism, colonialism, racism, sexism, ableism/disablism, homophobia, transphobia). As such we apply a (w)holistic and social justice lens to our work with people as we attempt to navigate life in an increasingly fragmented society.

Shiatsu Massage

Shiatsu is a Japanese form of bodywork using thumbs, fingers, palms, elbows, and sometimes knees, to apply pressure to the meridians of Ki (Qi) that course through our bodies.

A Shiatsu treatment offers deep relaxation, healing and relief. Lamia offers Zen Shiatsu in the Tradition of Shizuto Masunaga as taught by Kaz Kamiya.

I am a licensed Naturopathic Doctor (ND) and graduate from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM). Prior to CCNM, I completed my undergraduate studies in Political Science and Journalism. I subsequently worked as a writer, editor and youth facilitator.

I came into Naturopathic Medicine after a friend recommended I see an ND for a health issue at the time. I appreciated that the doctor took the time to get a full picture of what was happening with my health and then involved me in my care. Over the years I have developed a special interest in hormonal health, mental health and autoimmune conditions. I have successfully worked with people with a variety of conditions, including chronic eczema, hypothyroidism, hormonal imbalances, migraines, insomnia, anxiety, irritable bowel syndrome, chronic pain and menopausal concerns.

Combining up-to-date clinical research with traditional and natural therapies, naturopathic medicine focuses on supporting the body’s innate capacity to heal. You can see a Naturopathic Doctor (ND) for support with any condition – acute or chronic. It is important to make connections between bodily, mental and spiritual health and the larger socio-economic and cultural context. Recognizing that past and present experiences shape a person’s needs, I strive to provide a non-judgmental space. For more information on naturopathic medicine, conditions treated, and therapies offered see the brochure below or my website www.taniatabarnd.com.

I believe we all deserve to have non-judgemental, high quality health care that is effective, informative and empowering.

I offer Acupuncture, Shiatsu and Food Medicine to everyday people who are stressed or in pain in some way, caring for themselves as best they can and often fed up with not being listened to.

That sore neck you wake up with, the coworker making your brain explode, intestines that can’t seem to digest anything or an injury you just wish would heal faster….

The ongoing back pain, unexplained mystery illness, process of healing trauma or the longing to just feel better in any part of your life.

We will work with Traditional East Asian Medicine, my skills as a practitioner and your inherent healing ability to attend to your needs and learn how to best care for your being.

As a leader in the field of Community Acupuncture and client centered care I have given 1000’s of treatments to 100’s of people. I studied Shiatsu twenty years ago and it opened my mind and heart to the depth of wisdom in the branches of Traditional East Asian Medicines. To expand my practice and offer more accessible services to clients I returned to school for Acupuncture training and went on to co-own and operate a multi disciplinary community acupuncture clinic for the past 12 years. I left the clinic in July of 2019 to recover from burn out, centre my life on my family and dive deeper into my practice. I am so excited and grateful to be bringing my practice to Aurum.

I love what I do. The practice of Traditional East Asian Medicine and the chats I have with clients that expand minds and weave health throughout community. Seeing people get better and opening the door for when they need to come back is one of my deepest callings. Thank you for the opportunity to work together as we elevate health and wellness in your one precious life.

Hi, I am Tamoy and I am a registered social worker and psychotherapist who practices from an anti-oppressive framework. I believe that meeting people “where they are” forms the basis of a trusting therapeutic relationship.

I hold a Master of Social work degree from York University (2010). After working in the child welfare sector for over 10 years, it was evident that there are many barriers to wellness and that our environment is a major factor in shaping our wellbeing. I saw first-hand how challenging access to resources such as mental health services is for many oppressed communities, which furthers impacts their emotional wellbeing and physical safety. This guided me to work differently with families and led me on my journey into counseling. As a woman of colour, it was important to me to see myself reflected in the counseling community, as I know how vulnerable discussing our lived experiences can be. I am committed to working towards wellness while keeping in mind the many barriers. Furthermore, I strive to offer culturally sensitive approaches and safe, non-judgmental spaces for all clients.

As a therapist, I adapt my approach based on the clients’ needs and preferences. I believe each individual is the expert on their own life and knows best when it comes to their lived experiences and needs. I aim to offer a safe space to explore processes, identifying and challenging unhelpful behaviors, barriers and patterns and developing the skills to achieve desired goals and outcomes. I utilize Cognitive Behaviour therapy, Solution Focused brief therapy and Mindfulness based approaches when needed.

I am a member in good standing of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Worker- registration # 818132.

Michelle first discovered the power of massage in her early teens, after meeting a pain specialist who finally took the debilitating chronic migraines she had been suffering with from the age of 11 seriously. It was the first time anyone had thought to alleviate the pain in her head by providing hands on treatment to her neck, rather than prescribing her even heavier-duty painkillers. This sparked her passion for unravelling the connections between seemingly-disparate parts—and ailments—of the human body, and eventually propelled her into a career in bodywork. A few healing crises later, Michelle was honoured to speak as valedictorian upon her graduation from Sutherland-Chan School of Massage Therapy.

Working with horses from childhood taught Michelle to notice meaning communicated through touch and gesture, to listen deeply, and to trust her intuition and palpation (gathering information through touch.) She grounds these experiences in an ever-growing, fine-detailed understanding of human anatomy and biomechanics, and the latest in pain science, to deliver a caring space and effective treatment to her patients.

While happy to treat anyone who wants a massage, Michelle is particularly passionate about LGBTQ+ and women’s health, and the diverse and often misunderstood care needs of people living with chronic illness, (invisible) disability, neurodivergence, and persistent pain. She has experience working with populations including: women living with mental illness, athletes, seniors, stroke survivors, migraine sufferers, cancer patients and survivors, patients recovering from major and minor surgery, perinatal and high-risk pregnancy, connective tissue disorders and hypermobility, and more. Whether your goal is to optimize your posture, get out of pain, experience safe touch and pleasure in a non-sexual context, take a breather from raging against the machine, or simply to spend your benefits getting a nice massage, there is something in Michelle’s practice for you.

Incorporating a variety of oil- and non-oil based massage techniques, as well as breathing, proprioception, and visualization exercises, Michelle tailors each treatment to patient needs and preferences. She works with her patients to develop treatment plans and self-care protocols they can fit into their lives, understand, feel good about, and actually use. Together, you’ll figure out what your body needs to walk or roll back out into the world feeling better.

A big believer in the bio-psycho-social model of care, Michelle understands the impact each person’s unique experiences living in the world can have on how their body feels and functions, and vice versa. She makes space in her practice to acknowledge the harm and disruption caused to the whole person by various systemic oppressions, normalized abuses, and individual traumas—and holds just as much space for her patients to reconnect with their embodiment of peace, pleasure, power and joy. She is passionate about empowering her patients through building body awareness and kind regard, and by moving safely through barriers to deep relaxation (always at your own pace!) to interrupt cycles of pain and injury, and support the body’s innate healing process. Whether you want to dive deep or keep it light, Michelle will follow your lead, staying attuned to your consent as it evolves, moment-to-moment. She advocates fiercely for everybody’s capacity to know best what their own needs are, but understands firsthand that sometimes a little help is needed along the way.

Michelle is a member in good standing with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO) and the Registered Massage Therapists Association of Ontario (RMTAO).

Hi I’m Nicole. I’m a psychotherapist in the downtown Toronto area, with over 12 years of counselling experience.

I’ve come to see that North American society is organized in a way that isolates people, cutting us off from family, community, creation, even from a full sense of ourselves. This disconnection impacts us all in different ways, and has pressed me to pursue wholeness in therapy, where all aspects of our realities can be taken up, nurtured, and addressed in the space. Where thoughts and feelings are connected to shifts in our environments, movements in our communities, and conversations about colonialism, capitalism, or cis-heteropatriarchy. The counselling relationship is too significant and vulnerable a space to feel nervous bringing up the impacts of racism, or systemic oppression to your counsellor for example, and yet I know this is a common experience for folks seeking out supportive services.

My practice is all about healing, through all the love, fear, pain, beauty, messy, magic, and complicatedness of life. My approach is deeply relational, compassionate, creative, trauma & structurally informed.

As a mixed race therapist of Indigenous and European ancestry, I have extensive experience within diverse communities and practice settings. It has been an honour to support folks through life’s incredible joys & hardships. From grief & loss, trauma, relationships, family conflict, life transitions, student life, parenthood, self discovery, depression, anxiety, & experiences of mental physical and chronic illness. As well as supporting other helpers, organizers & community workers.

I believe healing happens in relation, and I am dedicated to nurturing an authentic, safe, and compassionate space, where we can build trust, care, creativity, even humour in the counselling process. When relevant or requested we can also draw on specific counselling approaches or tools, from Narrative Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Existential, Systems, Psychoanalytic and Liberation Psychology, to Indigenous, cultural and creative.

Finding the right counsellor can be tough, I know. Its more than just picking a name off a list. Forgive me for the cheesy simile, but finding the right therapist is a lot like searching out a great pair of shoes, you cant know they fit just by looking at them, you need to try them on and walk around a little. So please contact me if you want to chat, ask some questions, & explore whether we could be a good therapeutic match. I look forward to hearing from you.
