Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is an ancient medical system that has been used for over 2000 years. It is a holistic medicine that visualizes body "systems" disorders rather than focusing on a specific symptom. It diagnoses, treats, and prevents diseases based on the core theory that diseases result from imbalances in the body's vital forces and substances.

Acupuncture is the most well-known form of TCM treatment. There are other therapeutics that may be used alone or alongside acupuncture, such as acupressure, Chinese Herbal Medicine, cupping (used to detach muscle adhesions and accelerate healing of trauma), gua sha (used to improve blood circulation and lymphatic drainage), tui na (a Chinese manual therapy), moxibustion (burning mugwort herb near or indirectly on the body for various purposes) and lifestyle suggestions.

Cosmetic Acupuncture or Facial Acupuncture is a specialized form of acupuncture that focuses on improving the health and appearance of the face. Unlike traditional acupuncture, which targets the body’s overall balance and wellness, cosmetic and facial acupuncture hones in on specific points and techniques that promote skin health, reduce signs of aging, and enhance facial features.

What is Ayurvedic Medicine?
Ayurveda ( Ayur = life, Veda= science of knowledge) is a 5000 year old system of natural healing that has its origins in South Asia. It emphasizes establishing balance in the body through proper diet, exercise, and ideal daily and seasonal routines. Ayurveda provides a system of guidelines to remind us that health is the balanced and dynamic integration between our environment, body, mind and spirit.

Ayurveda and You:
Ayurveda recognizes human beings as a part of nature and describes three fundamental energies that govern our inner and outer environments. These three forces, which are known in Sanskrit as Vata (Wind / Movement), Pitta (Fire / Transformation) and Kapha (Water / Structure), are responsible for all the physiological and psychological processes within the body and mind.

While everyone has all three forces, each individual has a unique proportion of these forces that serve to shape their nature. Generally, one or two elements are more obviously expressed and, for each element, there can be a balanced and imbalanced expression. For example, when Vata (Wind / Movement) is balanced, a person is lively and creative. But when there is too much movement in the system, a person tends to experience anxiety, insomnia, dry skin, constipation and has difficulty completing tasks.

An important goal of Ayurveda is to identify an individual’s ideal state of balance, investigate imbalances, and offer interventions using nutrition, herbs, massage, and meditation to reestablish that balance. To learn more about our virtual global Ayurveda consultations, book a free 15 minute consult to discuss the approach to see if it's the right fit for your needs.

Osteopathy is a manual therapy that promotes health and healing in your body. Osteopathy centres on the principle that the structure of the body (bones, joints, muscles, and fascia) form the environment for the systems of the body (cardiovascular system, respiratory system, lymphatic system, etc.) to function optimally.

Osteopathy see the blood of the body as medicine because it contains oxygen and nutrients essential for healing. The osteopath ensures that the blood can flow to where it needs to go as a mechanism for healing. Past injuries, physical conditions, postural patterns (and compensations to these things) interfere with the movement of various vital fluids and are the focus of the treatments. Nerves also pass through the structures of the body to communicate and coordinate our movements. The aim of osteopathy is to have the structures of the body aligned and moving well.

Osteopathic practitioners are not treating an injury, disease or condition in isolation on its own. Rather, they encourage the overall health of the body to enhance the body’s self-healing and self-regulating abilities, which will in turn help to resolve symptoms. During treatment, your osteopath will move your body in specific ways, assessing and releasing restrictions to restore alignment.

If you would like to know more about osteopathy and if it's the right fit for you, book a free initial consult to discuss the approach with one of our osteopaths.

Hi, I’m Victoria! I am a Registered Dietitian having graduated from Brescia University College.

Throughout my academic career and internship, I have had a wide variety of experiences that have shaped the way that I view nutrition, the body, and the relationship between the two.

My philosophy is rooted in understanding and educating people on innate, built-in systems that impact human health (digestion, gut health, blood sugar, hormones, etc.) and the critical role of nutrition. I believe in a holistic approach to health through combining current research and traditional, cultural foodways that have served us for thousands of years. Combining the two is what I love to do!

I spent a lot of time in my Internship in the clinical sphere (cancer & surgery), which has provided great insight on the healthcare side of things, however it was very much focused on treatment versus prevention. I felt there was limited opportunity to make a lasting difference in my patients and found myself wanting to do more.

During my education, I realized that I was not giving my body the nutrition that it needs. After experiencing the challenges that a busy schedule has on maintaining a healthy diet, I began taking a more holistic and functional look at what was going on with my body. I started to explore the science of the body’s built-in systems, human biology, and nutrient-disease interactions. With the knowledge I gained in my research, I finally started to get a handle on my health and nutrition and yes- digestion. Integrating my science background with a holistic mindset allowed me to dig deeper into understanding the human body, and get to where I am today. I was not only able to heal my gut health, support my thyroid and rid my adult acne, I was able to address the root cause concerns and transform my health through food. My goal is to provide you with practical, everyday tools that you can use to navigate the modern food environment, understand your body and reconnect with your health!

I believe we all deserve to have non-judgemental, high quality health care that is effective, informative and empowering.

I offer Acupuncture, Shiatsu and Food Medicine to everyday people who are stressed or in pain in some way, caring for themselves as best they can and often fed up with not being listened to.

That sore neck you wake up with, the coworker making your brain explode, intestines that can’t seem to digest anything or an injury you just wish would heal faster….

The ongoing back pain, unexplained mystery illness, process of healing trauma or the longing to just feel better in any part of your life.

We will work with Traditional East Asian Medicine, my skills as a practitioner and your inherent healing ability to attend to your needs and learn how to best care for your being.

As a leader in the field of Community Acupuncture and client centered care I have given 1000’s of treatments to 100’s of people. I studied Shiatsu twenty years ago and it opened my mind and heart to the depth of wisdom in the branches of Traditional East Asian Medicines. To expand my practice and offer more accessible services to clients I returned to school for Acupuncture training and went on to co-own and operate a multi disciplinary community acupuncture clinic for the past 12 years. I left the clinic in July of 2019 to recover from burn out, centre my life on my family and dive deeper into my practice. I am so excited and grateful to be bringing my practice to Aurum.

I love what I do. The practice of Traditional East Asian Medicine and the chats I have with clients that expand minds and weave health throughout community. Seeing people get better and opening the door for when they need to come back is one of my deepest callings. Thank you for the opportunity to work together as we elevate health and wellness in your one precious life.

Hello there!

My name is Michelle and I am a registered psychotherapist providing virtual psychotherapy services to adults across Ontario.

As your therapist, I will:

• Take a warm, compassionate, and strengths-based approach to therapy

• Listen with empathy and non-judgement

• Meet you where you are right now

• Honour and trust your self-determination, personal strengths, and autonomy

• Explore your emotions and experiences with you in a safe way, at your own pace

I can help you:

• Cope with anxiety, depression, stress, relationship issues, trauma, and grief/loss

• Manage and regulate heavy emotions and thoughts (shame, self-criticism, not feeling “good enough”, fear, worries for the future, hopelessness, feeling “stuck”)

• Achieve balance and address perfectionism in arts, athletics, career, or academics

• Understand the impact of trauma, structural violence, and chronic stress on the brain and our behavioural responses

• Navigate the challenges that can come along with being a human in our world, while embracing the full spectrum of human emotion

• Learn strategies and skills that will empower you to make positive changes and move forward in the direction of what is most important to you

More about my therapy approach:

In my practice, I integrate various therapy modalities, including:

• Neuroscience-based, trauma-informed, and mindfulness-based approaches

• Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

• Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

• Dialectical Behaviour Therapy

• Internal Family Systems

• Compassion-focused Therapy

I strive to provide therapy that is culturally-informed and appreciates the intersectionality that contextualizes a person’s lived experiences. You may have experienced something completely terrifying, or continue to face chronic stress that has left you feeling overwhelmed or unable to cope. This might be related to harmful social structures, such as disparities across race, sex, gender, health, and socioeconomic status.

You may be feeling so anxious that you end up avoiding things that are important to you. You may be feeling stuck and unsure about how to move forward. The weight of all of this can be too much. As your therapist, I will do my best to carry this weight together with you. Part of our work may involve finding the balance between acceptance and change.

I can help you dive deep into the meaningful parts of your life experiences, or I can help you to manage the present day and look towards the future with hope. We can do a bit of both. We will work together to find the right approach for you.

Finding the right fit in therapy is so important. If you think we might be a good fit, we can set up a time to chat together soon. I look forward to meeting you.

More about me:

I love to go on nature and city walks, especially when it involves finding new cozy coffee shops. I am passionate about writing and reading poetry, and occasionally perform spoken word. For me, movement is vital for wellness. I have practiced Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai kickboxing, competitive dance, yoga, Animal Flow, and weightlifting.

Hello and welcome, I am Kaushiki, a mental health therapist in Toronto.

What initially brought me to therapy was a personal crisis over a decade ago: therapy presented a path for undoing long-held patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving. It invited and emboldened me toward becoming my full self.

As your therapist, I want to invite you to be your own full self.

My work brings this invitation into being in a relational and embodied way. I meet you where you are in each moment and follow you where you go during our time together. Drawing from my professional experience and what comes up from being in session with you, we together discover what is happening unconsciously within you and between us. I encourage you to deepen your exploration and support you as you set in motion your agenda and vision for life.

Apart from talking together, we might explore together through dramatic form and images. Sometimes I might invite you to embody and magnify a small part within yourself to deepen your access to that part. Instead of offering an interpretation, I aim to deepen or contain what is evoked for you. While I don’t use specific somatic modalities, I work in an embodied way and invite you to pay attention to your body’s sensations to help us explore how you are thinking and feeling. I use body-based techniques to teach grounding and centering, and paying attention to my own body informs me of where you might be.

My initial training was as a person-centered integrative therapist at Parivarthan Counselling, Training & Research Centre in India. This is where I began my practice. Earlier, I did my Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology at Amherst College in the United States and proceeded on to complete my Masters of Arts in the Social Sciences at the University of Chicago in the United States, graduating with distinction. The lens of these disciplines comes actively into my practice as I contemplate the social rootedness of our psyches. Currently I am a student at the Toronto Institute for Relational Psychotherapy (TIRP), which allows me to deepen my therapeutic lens.

I became a therapist because I began to see that structural inequality is held so deeply in our psyches and in our bodies. I expressly recognize that we live within structural contexts (gender, race, caste, capitalism to name a few) that come to trouble us from the inside. And I recognize that mental and emotional wellbeing are not disconnected from the impact of these contexts.

Over my many years of practice, I have done work with people struggling with a range of difficulties including anxiety, interpersonal troubles, depression, trauma, anger, shame, substance use, and I have particular experience with grief, suicide, self-harm and the dislocations of migration. Working collaboratively with psychiatrists, I have helped my clients make sense of psychiatric diagnoses that they may have received. Whether you seek help with a specific problem or are looking for a deeper exploration, I am skilled at working with my client towards the intentions you set. I look forward to witnessing your journey toward fullness.

Please feel free to book my free 15 minute virtual video or phone consultation to see if we are a good fit to work together.

Michelle first discovered the power of massage in her early teens, after meeting a pain specialist who finally took the debilitating chronic migraines she had been suffering with from the age of 11 seriously. It was the first time anyone had thought to alleviate the pain in her head by providing hands on treatment to her neck, rather than prescribing her even heavier-duty painkillers. This sparked her passion for unravelling the connections between seemingly-disparate parts—and ailments—of the human body, and eventually propelled her into a career in bodywork. A few healing crises later, Michelle was honoured to speak as valedictorian upon her graduation from Sutherland-Chan School of Massage Therapy.

Working with horses from childhood taught Michelle to notice meaning communicated through touch and gesture, to listen deeply, and to trust her intuition and palpation (gathering information through touch.) She grounds these experiences in an ever-growing, fine-detailed understanding of human anatomy and biomechanics, and the latest in pain science, to deliver a caring space and effective treatment to her patients.

While happy to treat anyone who wants a massage, Michelle is particularly passionate about LGBTQ+ and women’s health, and the diverse and often misunderstood care needs of people living with chronic illness, (invisible) disability, neurodivergence, and persistent pain. She has experience working with populations including: women living with mental illness, athletes, seniors, stroke survivors, migraine sufferers, cancer patients and survivors, patients recovering from major and minor surgery, perinatal and high-risk pregnancy, connective tissue disorders and hypermobility, and more. Whether your goal is to optimize your posture, get out of pain, experience safe touch and pleasure in a non-sexual context, take a breather from raging against the machine, or simply to spend your benefits getting a nice massage, there is something in Michelle’s practice for you.

Incorporating a variety of oil- and non-oil based massage techniques, as well as breathing, proprioception, and visualization exercises, Michelle tailors each treatment to patient needs and preferences. She works with her patients to develop treatment plans and self-care protocols they can fit into their lives, understand, feel good about, and actually use. Together, you’ll figure out what your body needs to walk or roll back out into the world feeling better.

A big believer in the bio-psycho-social model of care, Michelle understands the impact each person’s unique experiences living in the world can have on how their body feels and functions, and vice versa. She makes space in her practice to acknowledge the harm and disruption caused to the whole person by various systemic oppressions, normalized abuses, and individual traumas—and holds just as much space for her patients to reconnect with their embodiment of peace, pleasure, power and joy. She is passionate about empowering her patients through building body awareness and kind regard, and by moving safely through barriers to deep relaxation (always at your own pace!) to interrupt cycles of pain and injury, and support the body’s innate healing process. Whether you want to dive deep or keep it light, Michelle will follow your lead, staying attuned to your consent as it evolves, moment-to-moment. She advocates fiercely for everybody’s capacity to know best what their own needs are, but understands firsthand that sometimes a little help is needed along the way.

Michelle is a member in good standing with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO) and the Registered Massage Therapists Association of Ontario (RMTAO).

I am a licensed Naturopathic Doctor (ND) and graduate from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM). Prior to CCNM, I completed my undergraduate studies in Political Science and Journalism. I subsequently worked as a writer, editor and youth facilitator.

I came into Naturopathic Medicine after a friend recommended I see an ND for a health issue at the time. I appreciated that the doctor took the time to get a full picture of what was happening with my health and then involved me in my care. Over the years I have developed a special interest in hormonal health, mental health and autoimmune conditions. I have successfully worked with people with a variety of conditions, including chronic eczema, hypothyroidism, hormonal imbalances, migraines, insomnia, anxiety, irritable bowel syndrome, chronic pain and menopausal concerns.

Combining up-to-date clinical research with traditional and natural therapies, naturopathic medicine focuses on supporting the body’s innate capacity to heal. You can see a Naturopathic Doctor (ND) for support with any condition – acute or chronic. It is important to make connections between bodily, mental and spiritual health and the larger socio-economic and cultural context. Recognizing that past and present experiences shape a person’s needs, I strive to provide a non-judgmental space. For more information on naturopathic medicine, conditions treated, and therapies offered see the brochure below or my website www.taniatabarnd.com.
